WHEW! Okay, I have a big photo update for you! Thanks for your patience, everyone. :)
Here are the best of the photos we've taken of the pups at one and two days old. At this age they are crawling and very vocal! Eyes and ears are still shut tight. Most of what they know of the world is through smell and touch. This gang are very vigorous nursers and don't have much trouble finding Kyrie and the Milk Bar--well, at least MOST of the time. Except for when it's three in the morning and they don't want Grandma Anne to get any sleep! ;) I will be sleeping on the couch next to the whelping box for the next few weeks in order to keep tabs on everyone and rescue anyone who gets stuck behind mom until their eyes are open and sight is good enough to tell where they are going!
Okay, group shots first! Below we have, from left to right, Bess (yellow), Baker (blue), and Blaze (green) (with a blurry Brownie on the right!):
I LOVE the variety of colors, patterns and markings we have in this litter! Many pups have white toes; Bess has a white chevron-and-diamond pattern on her chest. I'll have to try to get a photo of that later...here's Brownie (no collar), Bess (yellow), and Belli (pink/purple, aka She Who Eats Everything):
Boomer (red) atop the puppy pileup!
Boomer and Bess, hanging out having a Sibling Moment. :)
The girls! Bess and Benelli-Belli.
Boomer (red collar boy)! For those of you who are fans of the movie _Army of Darkness_, his real name is "Boomstick". Because he is LOUD. :D
Brownie (no collar, boy)! He is a quieter pup, and a big one. He and Baker are neck-and-neck for size!
Beautiful little Bess (yellow collar girl)! Bess tends to go for what she wants with a quiet determination. Yesterday we saw her elbow the much larger Baker out of the way to get to her food!
Blaze (green collar, boy) is a apparently our photogenic pup and he knows it. He kept giving me great opportunities for good shots so he gets a triple feature today!
Baker (blue collar, boy) was the first pup to wag his tail, and so far is barely edging out Brownie for biggest pup! I have already taken to calling him "Sherlock" (221B Baker Street, don't you know). We are Sherlock Holmes fans in this house. ;)
Amusing commentary from earlier today: Jarrad: "Why Sherlock? Last night he couldn't find a nipple with both paws!" Anne: "Hush. He is obviously utilizing his energies to deduce far more complex and important things. You can't possibly understand how he perceives the world..."
Little Belli, Destroyer of Foods! She wears a pink or purple collar. The smallest pup at birth, but she is making up her lost ounces now, and gaining on Bess! Belli is, to put it simply, a Diva. You are not worthy. And do NOT get between her and her next meal if you value your hearing!
Got a very nice profile shot of Belli. Because she's almost all black she's very hard to photo!
Thanks for looking and reading, everyone! Next up in a few days: The 3-5 Days Update! :D
I am SO loving these pictures. What a cute gaggle of pups. I can smell that heartwarming milky puppy smell from here. - L
